Although I have quite a few seeds in inventory, some are getting long in the tooth. Viability decreases with age (tell me something I don’t know!) so I’m opting for fresh seed for most crops. I’ve got some new varieties in there too; New Girl and Plum Regal tomatoes, early and in the case of Plum Regal, Late Blight resistant, I hope will give me some ‘maters to eat and can this year. I’ve expanded my cutting flowers list because you can never have too many flowers, and having a bouquet of flowers on my desk slightly eases the pain of returning to the office at the end of the summer. Thanks for the reminder on the inoculant! You’d think after all these years I’d be on automatic ordering the stuff (especially after the adventure of almost not finding any around here), but no.
We’re not done with winter, but it’s 46 and raining as I write, so seeds are definitely a great topic for ttoday.

No, we are not done with winter, but this was a helluva thaw, with today’s high temp of 59 here. I’m all for an early spring, but I want cold enough weather to slow the late blight down.

That is a huge seed order. But if I were replace all my seeds, mine would be huge too. I usually toss the old ones out each year.

I’m excited to order that speckled roman tomato, too. An o.p. sauce tomato that’s gorgeous! Have you grown it before?

I have, and I really like Speckled Roman tomatoes. They have a good flavor eaten fresh, and work well for sauce. I’m a sucker for the speckles, so I’m going this variety again to compare it with Amish Paste which I have also grown and liked. I’m also hedging my bets with the Plum Regal tomatoes.

Wonderful. It’s so easy to be seduced by those darn tomatoes, before you know it, they’ve taken over the whole garden… I plan on four different varieties, but now I’m thinking I need more Roma-types for canning. Best of luck with your starts!

Only 4 ;-)? I usually end up with 12-16 plants, wonderful in a good year, heartbreaking when we have a bad year. And yes, it is so tempting! Mortgage Lifter, Cream Sausage, Tigerella, Orange Banana, Black Krim…. Such names!

I placed a substantial order with Pinetree because they had Packman Broccoli and Mortgage Lifter tomato. I’ve never ordered from them before but I’m sure I’ll be pleased.
On another note, I was unable to get my chickens to drink from the heated waterer. When I put a little piece of toothpick in a nipple for a drip, they waited for a puddle and drank from that. I ended up using a heated base and metal waterer but that is a lot better than the heated waterer I used last year.

Now that’s a seed order. The Pinetree order looked like mine, but then after scrolling down and seeing the Fedco and Johnnies orders I was mighty impressed. I’ve thought about trying a middle eastern cucumber but want to save the space for tried and true Diva and there’s a few Picolino seeds from last year (best tasting cuke ever). Looks like you’ll be keeping busy this spring.

You caught a type, Mike. When I found Pinetree had Diva cukes, I cancelled my Marketmore order. I ordered the Super Zagross cuke and the Diva to compare the two. I think I like the Super Zagross better, but now I can’t recall.

We got our seed catalogs in the mail and started drooling big time. I always want to plant everything in them. Unfortunately, I have a feeling it is going to be a bare basics kind of garden year coming up for us. I told Lee we have to use the summer get a lot of house stuff done so our house will be more livable and safer for a little one come fall.
Your garden is going to be awesome this year I think.
